The second day, you climb 1,300 meters to the top of the volcano with an altitude of 5825 meters. It will take approximately 5 – 6 hours to reach the top. After enjoying the views from the top of Misti and resting, we will begin descending the volcano to arrive in back in Arequipa by mid-day.
The day before beginning the tour, you will meet at the storehouse to try on equipment and meet your guide.
We will pick you up in a private car from where you are staying at 8 AM and drive three hours to the base of the Misti Volcano, located at 3,400 meters. Here, we will begin trekking to the base camp, located at 4,500 meters. You will climb 1,100 meters in 4 – 5 hours. Upon arriving to the base camp, we will eat dinner and relax before spending the night in tents. The meal usually consists of vegetable soup, pasta or chicken and tea. On a clear night, the view from the base camp is beautiful with Arequipa´s city lights in the distance and bright stars overhead.
Very early in the morning, we will eat breakfast and continue to the top of the Misti Volcano. Breakfast usually consists of bread, Andean cheese, coffee with milk, and mate. Keep in mind all the meals are light as eating heavy foods make adjusting to the altitude more difficult. To arrive to the top of Misti, we will climb approximately 1,300 meters in 5 to 6 hours. Upon arriving to the top of the volcano, we will rest and enjoy the views. Afterwards, we will begin descending to the base of volcano where our private transportation will be waiting to transport us back to Arequipa. We will return to Arequipa between 1 and 2 PM and you will be dropped off two blocks from the main square.
