This four day trek is a challenging journey into the heart of the Colca Canyon. You will likely be the only tourists on the trail! Also, the magnificent Haururo Waterfall make it all worth it.
You will be picked up from your hotel or hostel in Arequipa’s city center at 3:30am and we will drive north to Chivay where you will eat a simple breakfast.
We then head west to the Condor Cross located on the rim of the Colca Canyon. You will have 45 minutes to enjoy the views and look for condors.
After visiting the Condor Cross, we drive approximately 40 more minutes to the small town of Cabanaconde where we will visit the main square and eat lunch.
We will begin the trek at 1:00pm, hiking approximately four hours down into the Colca Canyon to the Llahuar Lodge.
During this portion of the trek, we will have magnificent views of the villages, terraces, and the Colca River below. After we reach the river at the bottom, we cross some suspension bridges and then we have the wonderful experience of seeing the small Geyser that is located opposite the river.
At 5pm we will arrive to the Llahuar Lodge (2,020m) to enjoy the hot springs and admire the impressive landscapes. We will also have opportunity to try trout fishing in the Colca River. At night we will have dinner and sleep in the Lodge’s bungalows made of reeds.
We will wake up at 7:00 am to eat breakfast before starting the four-hour trek out of Llahuar towards Fure (3500m). During this portion of the trek, there are a variety of native plants that are really fascinating, during and after the rainy season.
We arrive at Fure village around midday for a traditional lunch served in the home of a local family who will provide lodging as well.
After eating lunch, we will hike to the magnificent Huaruro Waterfall that is about 75m tall! Around this natural beauty, beside the Huaruro River, we will take a short rest to appreciate the wild flowers and other plants before returning to Fure.
A traditional dinner will be served in the evening before a well-deserved night of sleep.
Breakfast will be served at 7:00am before beginning the four hour trek from Fure to Oasis Sangalle. During this portion of the trek we will see amazing landscapes, different native plants, and the most impressive view of the Canyon from the Apacheta lookout.
We will arrive to Oasis Sangalle around midday. Here we will eat lunch in the shade near the beautiful pool and gardens.
After lunch you will have the opportunity to get accommodated in your bungalows, before swimming in the pool or taking walk to see the tropical vegetation.
Dinner will be served around 7:00pm before retiring to the bungalows to sleep.
The following morning, we will wake up at 5am to climb back out of the canyon to Cabanaconde, a small town situated on the rim of the canyon directly above Sangalle. This three hour, 1000m climb is the most difficult part of the trek. Everyone can climb at their own pace and the group will reunite at the top.
Breakfast will be served in Cabanaconde and the transportation will pick us up afterwards.
We will make our way back towards Chivay by car making stops at Antawilke to see pre-Incan terraces and the Yanque hotsprings to bathe in the hot pools for one hour.
Upon arriving to Chivay we will stop at a local restaurant to eat a buffet lunch.
We then head back towards Arequipa making two final stops along the way at Patapama and the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve. You will be dropped off back at your hotel around 5:30pm.
